Homemade Laundry Detergent

We have been using homemade laundry detergent for some time now. Let me tell you, it is incredibly affordable, cleans our clothes well, there is minimum garbage waste to toss out AND super easy to make! Now, I have always preferred the liquid detergent myself, however, have found a love for the powdered kind that we've been using.

Wade usually makes our soap (did I mention how much I love my crafty husband?!?!), but the other day I had a go at it. I was a little nervous at first, I didn't want to screw it up and also didn't know if I would be able to do it while home alone with our girls, but it ended up being one of the easiest projects I've ever done!!!

So for all you diy'rs and penny pincher's out there......here you go:

STEP 1: Grate 2 bars of Ivory Soap. Easy. Done. Takes like 3 min.
(BTW, we buy a large package of these bars so that it is more cost efficient in the long run.)
STEP 2: In a med/lg bowl, mix together 2 cups of Super Washing Soda and 2 cups of Borax (both can be purchased at Walmart).

Honestly, this recipe is so easy that I was able to do it while V'leah was playing with the dog and Josi was playing in her highchair!!

STEP 3: Start to blend your soap and powdered mixture together. Add a little bit of each item at a time. (soap, powder, blend. soap, powder, blend) Until you have all of it in the blender and it comes to a fine powdered consistency.

That took all of about 5 min of your time.....
STEP 4: Pour into a Tupperware container or glass jar. Add in about 10 drops of your favorite essential oil. Stir or shake. Add about 10 more drops. Stir or shake again and walla! You are done, you crafty person you! Look what you just made! You should feel accomplished and so proud that you are saving your family from wasting your hard earned $$ on something so simple to make! Not to mention how soft it is on your skin and how it works even for newborn skin AND cloth diapers! Way to go!
To wash: Add 1 Tbs. scoop to a small/med load and 2 scoops for a Large or heavy wash load.     Cost per load: approx. 3 cents!!

FINAL STEP: Wash your clothes and enjoy your hard (or not so hard) work, of making your own, personally scented Laundry Detergent!
